On July 5, 2019, three teachers fromthe birth cohort of Nanjing Medical University, Xiumei Han, Kun Zhou and XiaoyuLiu went to Nanjing Maternal and Child Health Hospital to carry out researchwork with the support of the Jiangsu Provincial Science and TechnologyResources Coordination Service Center.
During the investigation, threeteachers from the sub-library of the birth cohort had a discussion with severalkey scientific research doctors in major cooperative departments such as theobstetrics, gynecology, reproductive center, paediatric care, medical researchcenter, and laboratory of Nanjing Maternal and Child Health Hospital.
Firstof all, Xiumei Han briefly introduced the current status of the biobank andshared service plans. Subsequently, the representatives of the doctors introducedthe research directions and main results in recent years, and expressed theirwillingness to share various samples in the sample library.
Dr.Ling Chen from the Department of Pediatrics proposes to study the direction ofchildhood obesity based on the samples and flow adjustment data from the earlybirth cohort; Director Hongjuan Ding of the obstetrics department intends todevelop postpartum complications such as delayed initiation of lactation, postpartum depression, and postpartum cardiovascular disease based on previousscientific research accumulation Follow-up cooperation in other directions; Dr.Kaipeng Xie from the research center also raised the question of whether it canrely on cohorts to build sub-cohorts and other scientific research issues thatfit the characteristics of cohorts.
The birth cohort sub-bank of theJiangsu Critical Disease Biological Resource Database Platform, the NationalBirth Cohort Biological Sample Bank of Nanjing Medical University, was establishedin 2015. It is located on the basement of the School of Public Health, NanjingMedical University. The entire sample bank covers an area of approximately1,360 square meters. The goal of the birth cohort sample bank is to dynamicallystore about 1.8 million high-quality biological samples from 30,000 familieswith natural pregnancy and 30,000 families with ART (assisted reproduction). The total number of samples has reached 500,000. The number of samples for theproject is constantly increasing. Nanjing Maternal and Child Health Hospital,as a demonstration unit for the construction of the birth queue sub-bank, hascollected nearly 100,000 samples of various types for the sample bank in recentyears.
Through this survey, the birth cohortsub-bank has a general understanding of the sharing needs and researchdirections of the Nanjing Maternal and Child Health Hospital. At the same time, the two parties have optimized and improved the sharing plan and servicecontent of the birth cohort sample bank. Reasonable use of samples to benefitmore families is the common goal and wish of all birth cohort workers.
